Julius Berger Nigeria appoints new chair as Sunmonu bows out

Julius Berger Nigeria has announced the appointment of Goni Musa Sheikh to replace Mutiu Sunmonu, who would exit the company’s board as chairman with effect from March 31, 2025.

Sunmonu was appointed a non-executive director on January 1, 2015 and chairman on April 1, 2016.

The company’s board of directors, at a meeting held on Thursday, elected Sheikh as the chairman for a term of three years with effect from April 1, 2025, according to a statement on Friday.

“He has over 35 years of cognate, international and strategic experience in mining, oil and gas operations, particularly in the public sector, which commenced with the Nigerian Mining Corporation, Jos, and from which sector he retired as Federal Permanent Secretary in July 2015,” Julius Berger said.

Sheikh, who is the executive vice chairman of Oriental Energy Resources Limited, also sits on the boards of Ezikel Refinery Limited, Nigserve Energy Services Limited and Julius Berger Investments Limited.

A member of the Shareholder Advisory Council of Julius Berger International GmbH, he was appointed to the Board of Julius Berger with effect from July 1, 2019.
