TGI to Take Stake in DP World’s Nigeria Logistics Business
DP World and Tropical General Investments (TGI) Group have announced a partnership to expand logistics services in Nigeria and lay the groundwork for growth across West Africa.
Under the agreement, TGI will become a shareholder in DP World’s Nigerian logistics business, subject to regulatory approval, while DP World will retain its majority stake, according to a statement on Thursday. The announcement did not disclose the transaction’s value or the size of TGI’s proposed shareholding.
The partnership brings together DP World’s global supply chain expertise and TGI’s extensive Nigerian distribution network, local market knowledge and operational experience. The companies aim to broaden integrated logistics services and improve connections between Nigerian businesses and regional and international markets.
DP World Logistics Limited, the company’s Nigerian entity, will continue serving existing customers without interruption. Current services, operations and customer commitments will remain in place as the business develops additional capabilities.
The company already has a substantial presence in Nigeria, particularly in market access services for the healthcare and consumer sectors, alongside its growing logistics operations.
The collaboration will build on road freight and contract logistics services while exploring additional offerings, including fourth-party logistics, or 4PL, solutions that coordinate activities across a business’s supply chain.
DP World will also provide logistics and operational support to TGI Group to help improve supply chain efficiency and optimise operations.
Mohammed Akoojee, chief executive officer and managing director of DP World Africa, described Nigeria as a critical market for the continent’s trade ambitions.
“Nigeria is one of Africa’s most important economies and a critical market for the future of trade on the continent,” he said.
“As part of this agreement, and subject to the requisite regulatory approval, TGI will become a shareholder in our DP World Logistics business in Nigeria, with DP World remaining the majority shareholder.”
Akoojee said the partnership would strengthen supply chains, improve the movement of goods and create opportunities for growth in Nigeria and beyond.
Farouk Gumel, vice chairman of TGI Group, said the collaboration reflected both companies’ ambition to reshape trade and logistics in Africa.
“By combining DP World’s global expertise with TGI Group’s deep market knowledge and extensive distribution network, we are building resilient supply chains that will unlock growth, strengthen regional connectivity and support economic prosperity for generations to come,” he said.
Although Nigeria is the initial focus, the companies said the partnership would create a platform for wider expansion across West Africa.
