Sahara Group Foundation Expands Lagos Waste-to-Wealth Push With Two New Recycling Hubs
Sahara Group Foundation has inaugurated two new Sahara Go Recycling Hubs in Ojodu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos, expanding community access to structured recycling and sustainable waste management.
The two facilities, unveiled on the same day, bring the foundation’s total number of Sahara Go Recycling Hubs to 19, marking its latest push to divert recyclable materials from landfills, improve resource recovery, and create household income opportunities through organised waste-to-wealth channels, according to a statement on Saturday.
Chidilim Menakaya, director of Sahara Group Foundation, said the expansion reflected continued investment in community-led solutions with long-term environmental and socio-economic benefits.
She noted that by positioning recycling services closer to residents, the initiative promotes environmental responsibility while helping households earn value from recyclable waste.
Chief of Staff Olaide Bello, representing the chairman of Ojodu LCDA, David Olusegun Odunmbaku, praised the initiative, describing it as timely for a fast-growing urban community.
He said the hubs align with local sustainability priorities by turning waste into resources, reducing environmental impact, supporting climate action and providing livelihood opportunities.
The foundation said Sahara Go Recycling has recorded growing participation and awareness in Lagos since launch. It has facilitated the recycling of over 1,000 tonnes of materials and impacted more than 2,000 livelihoods directly and indirectly through collection, sorting, logistics and community enterprise opportunities.
Sahara Group Foundation said it will continue expanding the Sahara Go Recycling Initiative in Lagos and beyond as part of its wider goal of building sustainable communities through “EXTRApreneurship”.
