Nigeria’s Oil Production Plunges to Five-Month Low Amid Rivers Crisis
Nigeria’s crude oil production fell in March for the second straight month to its lowest since October last year, according to official data analysed by Markets Reporters.
Africa’s biggest oil producer saw its output fall to 1.6 million barrels per day (bpd) last month from 1.67 million bpd in February, according to the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission.
The country’s production had been on the rise in the three months to January 2025 following a state of emergency declared by state-owned Nigerian National Petroleum Company in August but it declined in February from 1.74 million bpd.
The decline came amid the political crisis in oil-rich Rivers State that led to explosions at two facilities last month.
