Ex-ExxonMobil Executive Bows Out as MD of Seplat’s Newest Unit SEPNU

Oladotun Isiaka, who was appointed to lead a Seplat Energy subsidiary that emerged following the acquisition of assets from the United States oil giant ExxonMobil in 2024, has retired after almost 30 years in the oil and gas industry.

On 12 December 2024, Seplat Energy acquired 100% of Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited (MPNU) and changed the name on 19 December 2024 to Seplat Energy Producing Nigeria Unlimited (SEPNU).

Prior to Isiaka’s appointment as managing director of SEPNU, he was the executive director and development manager for ExxonMobil Affiliates in Nigeria.

“After nearly three decades of an extraordinary journey in the energy industry, the time has come for me to bid farewell as I retire from active service today 1 January 2026,” he said Thursday on LinkedIn.

“From my early days as a Civil Engineer with Intecon Partnership in Ibadan, through my years with ExxonMobil across Nigeria and the USA and culminating in my last role at Seplat Energy Plc, this journey has been nothing short of remarkable,” he added. “As I step into a new chapter, my priorities will shift. I look forward to spending more time with my family and pursuing passions that have always been close to my heart—developing people and mentoring future entrepreneurs.”

Isiaka joined ExxonMobil in 1996 as a construction engineer and has held various leadership and managerial positions in Nigeria and the United States.

In 2008, he was promoted from area operations manager at MPNU to operations superintendent at ExxonMobil Production Company, US.

After almost three years in the US, he became deputy operations manager for MPNU, a position he held for almost two and a half years before he was appointed as general manager, deepwater operations and joint interest at Esso Exploration & Production Nigeria Limited effective January 2014.

He was elevated to the post of general manager, Nigeria subsurface at MPNU in April 2017, and then executive director, development for ExxonMobil Companies in Nigeria two years later. In 2022, he became vice president of ExxonMobil Gas and Supply Nigeria Limited.

He started his career in 1990 as civil/structural engineer at Intecon Partnership, a Nigerian engineering firm, and was there for over five years.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, a Master of Science in Structural Engineering from University of Lagos, a Masters Certificate from The George Washington University; and an MBA from University of Calabar.
