Dangote plans Nigeria’s largest port in state that lost $20bn refinery project

Aliko Dangote, president/chief executive of Dangote Group, is looking to build the largest sea port in Nigeria at Olokola Free Trade Zone in Ogun State which was the initial site for his refinery project.

The location of Dangote’s refinery, petrochemical and fertiliser complex was changed to Ibeju-Lekki in Lagos after discussions with the Ogun government broke down. In 2015, the refinery’s capacity was also increased from 400,000 barrels per day (bpd) to 650,000bpd.

“We earlier on abandoned our vision of investing in the Olokola Free Trade Zone, but because of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s policies and investor friendly environment, I want to say we are back and are going to work with the government and return to Olokola and plans are underway to construct the largest port in the country,” Dangote said on Monday.

He spoke during his visit to the ongoing 6 million metric tons per annum cement factory at Itori, Ogun State.
