Seplat Energy Revives 73 Idle Wells From Former ExxonMobil Assets
Seplat Energy Plc, the Nigerian independent oil and gas producer dual-listed in Lagos and London, has restored a cumulative 73 previously idle wells to production as part of an aggressive revival programme targeting assets acquired from ExxonMobil.
In its half-year 2026 earnings report released on Thursday, the company announced that 15 additional idle wells were brought back online during the second quarter, adding to the nine restored in the first quarter and building on the 58 wells revived earlier under its post-acquisition intervention programme.
The Q2 restoration effort delivered an incremental gross production capacity of 16,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (6,400 bopd working interest), complementing the 10,000 bopd added from nine wells revived in the previous quarter.
“The continued success of the programme demonstrates the value embedded within the existing asset portfolio and supports the Company’s strategy of maximizing production through targeted, capital-efficient interventions,” Seplat said.
In April, the company disclosed in its first-quarter results that it had invested $83 million to revive 58 idle wells from the assets acquired from ExxonMobil in 2024.
