MTN Nigeria Declares Interim Dividend as Retained Earnings Turn Positive

The board of MTN Nigeria Communications has approved an interim dividend of N5.00 per share following the company’s return to positive retained earnings.

The country’s biggest mobile network operator said on Thursday that the dividend would be payable from distributable net income to shareholders on the register as of 20 November 2025.

“This decision reflects our ongoing commitment to delivering shareholder value and reinforces our commitment to sustainable value creation,” it said in an earnings release.

It reported a profit after tax of N750.2 billion, marking a turnaround from the N514.9 billion in the prior year.

“In line with guidance, we have returned to positive retained earnings and shareholders’ equity positions, with improvements to positive N142.7 billion (December 2024: negative N607.5 billion) and positive N293.1 billion (December 2024: negative N458.0 billion), respectively,” MTN said.

The company did not declare a dividend for 2024 for the first time since it was listed on the Nigerian stock exchange as its after-tax loss widened to N400 billion from N137 billion in 2023.
