NLNG shuts down four of six trains, says CEO

Nigeria LNG (NLNG), the country’s biggest gas exporter, has shut down four of its six trains as three pipelines supplying feedstock to its plant are being repaired.

Philip Mshelbila, chief executive officer of NLNG, said on Tuesday that the gas pipelines are being repaired following illegal connections by thieves.

“As we sit here, right now in this hall, I am only running two trains out of six. And the reason I can only run two trains out of six today is because three of our gas supply pipelines are down for repairs. Why are we repairing? Illegal connections from thieves on gas pipelines,” he said on a panel at the Nigeria International Energy Summit in Abuja.

He said the biggest lines, GTS-1, 2 and 4, that supply NLNG with gas were affected.

“Since the Russian war, I have been approached by dozens of European and other countries for LNG but we have been unable to supply because of this. You see what is happening with Qatar and the US. We can’t compete,” Mshelbila said.
