Two years after FID, NLNG Train 7 project still facing delay

Construction activities for the Train 7 project of the Nigeria LNG Limited have yet to commence, the company said on Wednesday.

Shareholders in the NLNG, including the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, took the final investment decision on the project in December 2019 after being delayed for more than 10 years.

The Train 7 project aims to increase the company’s production capacity from 22 metric tonnes per annum to about 30 MTPA and will form part of the investment of over $10bn, including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, according to the company.

The company, in a statement on Wednesday, said its attention had been drawn to an online advertisement announcing vacancies for its Train 7 project positions.

It said the advertisement went further to request that interested persons join WhatsApp groups created for the purpose of progressing such employment.

The statement said, “NLNG expressly dissociates itself from the advertisement and hereby informs the general public that the said advertisement or any others along the same lines are false, fraudulent and calculated to mislead unsuspecting members of the public.

“Neither NLNG nor its contractors have commenced recruiting for the Train 7 Project, for which construction activities are yet to commence.”

The company urged the public to exercise due diligence and caution in evaluating and verifying any claims made by persons purporting to act on its behalf.

It advised the public “not to make any financial commitment in relation to any such claims as neither NLNG nor its contractors for the Train 7 Project – a consortium comprising Saipem, Chiyoda and Daewoo, which is exclusively responsible for managing all aspects of the Train 7 Projects – will make such demands”.
