Nigeria’s power generation slumps to 3,212MW, blackout worsens

Electricity supply in Nigeria, Africa’s biggest economy, worsened on Saturday as generation fell by 1,439.1 megawatts.

Total generation in the country plunged to 3,212.3MW at 6:00am on Saturday from 4,651.4MW on Friday, according to the latest data obtained by Markets Reporters from the Transmission Company of Nigeria.

In Lagos, the country’s commercial capital, Egbin power plant saw its generation drop to 530MW at 6:00am on Saturday from 712MW on Friday.

The government-owned TCN had on Mar. 2 said it successfully transmitted an enhanced peak generation of 5,801.60MW at 9:30pm on Mar. 1, 2021.

It said the latest peak generation was transmitted at a frequency of 50.09Hz.

‘This value is higher than 5,615.40MW recorded on February 28, 2021, by 186.20MW,” the company, which manages the national grid, added.
