Foreign investment in Nigerian stocks fell by 41% in 2020
The amount invested by foreign investors in the Nigerian stock market fell by 41 percent year-on-year in 2020, official figures showed on Wednesday.
The Nigerian Stock Exchange said foreign inflow dropped to N247.27 billion last year from N419.13 billion in 2019, while foreign outflow fell to N481.93 billion in 2020 from N523.42 billion.
The NSE said total domestic transactions accounted for about 74 percent of the total transactions carried out in 2020, while foreign transactions accounted for about 26 percent.
It said total foreign transactions carried out was about N729.21 billion, while total domestic transactions was about N1.44 trillion.
The bourse said, “As at 31 December 2020, total transactions at the nation’s bourse decreased by 15.28 percent from N317.81 billion (about $813.87 million) in November 2020 to N269.24 billion (about $687.06 million) in December 2020.
“In December 2020, the total value of transactions executed by domestic Investors outperformed transactions executed by foreign Investors by about 48 percent.”
