Why We Extended Africa’s Biggest IPO, by Dangote Refinery

Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE (DPRP) has announced a two-week extension for its Initial Public Offering (IPO), pushing the closing date from October 13 to October 27.

Following approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the company described the extension as a strategic move to accommodate the overwhelming interest from a diverse pool of eligible investors across Africa and international markets. The IPO originally opened on September 14, 2026.

According to the company’s statement, the additional timeframe will support ongoing market-access initiatives across various African jurisdictions.

This includes the expansion of distribution channels and the rollout of depositary receipt programs aimed at smoothing out cross-border investor participation. Furthermore, the extension grants prospective investors the much-needed time to complete mandatory account-opening procedures, identity verification, and other regulatory requirements.

The issuer expressed strong optimism regarding the level of investor engagement witnessed so far, noting that the extension aligns perfectly with its goal of broad inclusivity.

“We welcome the SEC’s approval of the extension, which will give more investors across Africa the opportunity to participate in the Offer,” said David Bird, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of DPRP. “From the outset, our ambition has been to enable as many people as possible to participate in the IPO and share in DPRP’s future growth. The additional time will help us extend that opportunity to more investors across Africa.”
