Continental Re Deepens East Africa Footprint With New Rwanda Office
Continental Reinsurance has expanded its East African presence after securing a licence from the National Bank of Rwanda to establish a representative office in Kigali.
The office, operating as Continental Reinsurance (R) Limited, became effective on 10 August 2026. It will serve as a local liaison and market-development hub for the reinsurer in Rwanda, according to a statement on Wednesday.
The Kigali office will strengthen Continental Re’s engagement with insurers, reinsurance brokers and other industry stakeholders. It will also complement the underwriting and technical capabilities provided through the company’s wider East African operations.
According to the company, the new presence will bring its teams closer to clients, improve its understanding of local market needs and enable faster, more responsive support.
“Rwanda is one of the most dynamic and well-governed insurance markets in the region, and establishing a presence here reflects our long-term commitment to East Africa,” said Kevin Mworia, Managing Director of Continental Re.
“Our Representative Office allows us to work more closely with our partners on the ground, understand their needs in real time, and continue delivering the responsive service and technical expertise that define Continental Re.”
The company said it would appoint a dedicated local representative in the coming weeks, giving clients and partners direct access to its teams, expertise and reinsurance solutions.
The expansion supports Continental Re’s “Pan-African commitment made local” philosophy, through which the company aims to combine continental scale with market-specific knowledge and closer relationships across the countries it serves.
