Nigeria’s Top Gas Exporter Orders Three LNG Carriers From Chinese Shipbuilders

Bonny Gas Transport Limited (BGT), a subsidiary of Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG), has awarded contracts for the construction of three new liquefied natural gas (LNG) vessels to Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co. Ltd. and China Shipbuilding Trading Co. Ltd.

NLNG, the country’s biggest gas exporter, said on Monday that the newbuilds form part of BGT’s fleet renewal and replacement programme. Each vessel will have a cargo capacity of 174,000 cubic metres and will be equipped with advanced X-DF propulsion technology aimed at improving fuel efficiency and reducing emissions compared with older designs, according to a statement.

The vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2029. They will be chartered by NLNG and managed by NLNG Shipping and Marine Services Limited, the company’s integrated maritime services arm.

BGT said the awards mark a key milestone in its drive to modernise its fleet and support cleaner, more efficient operations. The vessels are expected to meet global and European Union emissions requirements and support NLNG’s target of maintaining its OGMP 2.0 Level 5 rating.

NLNG said the additional vessels will strengthen its capacity to deliver cleaner energy globally while reinforcing the company’s sustainability and operational excellence objectives.
