Seplat Shareholders Approve Elumelu’s Board Appointment
Shareholders of Seplat Energy Plc on Wednesday approved the appointment of Tony Elumelu as a non-executive director at the company’s annual general meeting in Lagos.
Seplat announced in January the appointment of Elumelu effective January 22, 2026, following the sale of Etablissements Maurel et Prom SA’s 20.07% shareholding in the company to Heirs Energies Limited, a subsidiary of Heirs Holdings.
Elumelu, a prominent African investor and philanthropist, is the founder and chairman of Heirs Holdings, which has investments across sectors including energy, power, banking, insurance, technology, real estate, hospitality and healthcare. He also chairs United Bank for Africa Group, Heirs Energies and Transcorp Group, whose subsidiaries include Transcorp Power and Transcorp Hotels Plc.
In 2010, he established The Tony Elumelu Foundation, which supports African entrepreneurs across all 54 countries on the continent. He has been recognised globally, including being named among TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People (2020) and receiving Nigeria’s Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (2022) honour. He also serves on global boards, including UNICEF’s Generation Unlimited Global Leadership Council and the International Monetary Fund’s Advisory Council on Entrepreneurship and Growth.
