Many parts of Nigeria have been plunged into blackout following the shutdown of most of the plants on the national grid that led to a sharp decline in power generation.
With output from 13 power plants zeroed out as of 7am local time on Tuesday, the country’s electricity generation fell to 1,972.86 megawatts from 4,975.59MW an hour earlier, according to official data obtained by Markets Reporters. Only eight plants including Lagos-based Egbin station were producing electricity at the time.
Power supply tumbled on Monday night but rebounded in the early hours of Tuesday.
